Professional Development

The University of Washington Master of Health Informatics & Health Information Management program places a high priority on helping you take the next step in your career. We offer a variety of programs and services to support and enhance your professional development.

Professional Development Services

The MHIHIM program has a dedicated graduate program and career adviser. The adviser is available to meet with you anytime to discuss your career goals, help you explore career paths, assist with resume and cover letter edits, connect you with an alum and more. He or she organizes quarterly events that vary in content, including speaker series with health care leaders and program alumni. You can email the graduate program and career adviser at

Professional Mentoring

Through the MHIHIM Stakeholders Program, MHIHIM students can get connected to a mentor from the health informatics and health information management community. A mentor can provide career guidance, enhance your professional network, and develop into a lifelong professional and personal connection. If you're interested in having a mentor, you'll work with the MHIHIM graduate program and career adviser to be matched with a professional mentor.

Quarterly Leadership Speaker Series

The Quarterly Leadership Speaker Series allows you to engage with industry-based leaders, visionaries, policy makers and renowned leaders from local health care organizations. Speakers from various health care organizations and systems offer valuable insights and innovative solutions to the contemporary health care challenges.

Alumni Panel

Through the Alumni Panel, you'll meet and engage with alumni with diverse professional experiences who'll share their post-MHIHIM career pathway. This session offers wonderful networking and exchange opportunities with program alumni.

Peer Mentoring and Networking Opportunities

We place a high priority on helping you build strong networking skills and your own set of professional contacts. During your time in the program, you will have the opportunity to meet and network with senior MHIHIM students and alumni at program-sponsored events. These activities include informal opportunities to learn about various health care positions and career paths.
